1. Apples - Apples are so easy to grab and go, we always have them on hand. Make it easy on yourself and have at least 2 different fresh fruits you can choose to eat each day. Right now you can still get grapes, apples are great year ‘round and pears are great to. Apples are a high fiber fruit and paired with a cheese stick or two you have got a meal.
2. Almonds - Your “portable protein” – this is another perfect on the go snack, very portable and high in metabolism-boosting protein and healthy fats. Remember a serving is a quarter cup.
3. Eggs – Eggs are a great source of protein, in fact they are what all other proteins are measured against because of the amino acid make up. It is so great to have some boiled eggs in the fridge so you can have a quick and easy source of protein or just scramble on up, it take less time to scramble and egg then to make a sandwich.
4. Spinach – This really is a super food. You can use it in place of boring iceberg in your salads, sandwiches or wraps or you can steam it, sauté it with a little olive oil and some salt and pepper, add it to omelets, the list is endless.
5. Yogurt – Mmmm, yogurt mixed with cottage cheese is one of my favorites. Yogurt is one of the only foods that you can get immune boosting live cultures from. Please, read your labels and make sure that you are not getting yogurt with high fructose corn syrup and when possible I would choose organic dairy. Another yogurt to try is ‘greek’ yogurt, much higher in protein then regular yogurt.
6. Chicken Breast – Grill or bake some boneless, skinless chicken breasts at the beginning of the week and you can slice it, dice it or whatever and add it to salads, soups, eat with a veggie or a fruit for a very lean, metabolism boosting meal.
7. Black Beans – Beans are such a good protein alternative. You can have them in many different ways and a can of beans is super convenient. Look for a can of beans with out preservatives and rinse that nasty juice off.
8. Tomatoes – A great food to add a little zest to your meals. They make salads sweet, eggs colorful, and make a great pair with cucumbers and greek yogurt with some olive oil and s&p. Another great way to eat tomatoes is in salsa which is great with eggs or mixed with cottage cheese as a dip for your favorite multigrain chip.
9. Green Tea - Loaded with EGCG which causes your brain and nervous system to run more quickly — helping you burn more calories. You must brew your own and have at least one cup per day.
